DIY Twine: Martha Stewart Feature

By jo anne

Ever need a certain color twine for that certain party decor? Never finding the right color or color combination to complete your project?

Well now with our DIY twine you can custom make your own twine to your needs. We used red and blue for July 4th but imagine using black and orange for Halloween and green and red for Christmas?

Combine your favorite colors, rainbow, navy and pink or yellow and grey for the perfect accent to any decor!

Here are the steps to making your own twine:

start with a roll of white twine

2 rulers

colored permanent markers of your choice

scissors and tape

Carefully wrap the twine around the ruler. Tape the ends down to stay put.

Using your markers, we used red and blue for the 4th of July, draw a straight line against your second ruler going slowly enough to saturate the twine.

Once dry you are ready to use your twine however you wish!!

We made pom poms out of ours and drink decor!

See the Martha Stewart site for the pom pom how to.

We are beyond thrilled to have our twine featured on Martha Stewart Craftwebsite today!!

What would be your favorite color combination?

Recently I styled a shoot for 20 Best Twenty

our first holiday collaboration was Valentine’s Day!

thanks to Harper Grey for framing our shots!

I wanted to go more mod, metallic and glimmery! I am addicted to tassels currently so they had to be a part of my vision. Thank you

Pom Flair!

The perfect backdrop was found at my friend’s flower shop, BlumenMeisters, with this amazing curtain from IKEA. I totally rearranged her shop  to get the best shot, she didn’t mind!  Thanks, Sheri!!

With help from my right hand Mika of CookieCraft we draped tassels, garlands,  metallic curtains and blew up balloons.

My neice Lindsay came as our model. I knew she had the LOOK to be in the shoot. She had a ball and is gorgeous don’t you say????

The cakepops and macaroons were just what I wanted thank you Tammy from bon~bon.

And the cake, eat your heart out!  It is the most fun thing! Thank you to 2tarts bakery.

and the chevron iced cookies too!

and chocolate cupcakes!

We had more fun with this balloon I used vinyl lettering from Ten23 Designs.

and of course thanks to Pagette Callender Photography. We could not have done this without her!!

pretty packaging

By jo anne

i’m keeping busy packaging up goodies for family and friends for the holidays.

i love doing this. i love making treats and decicing how i will package them each year.

did you know i got my start by selling my goodies to a local coffee shop?

yep, i made treats year round that sold and as orders came in for parties and gifts, i decided to go forward.

I’ve dipped thousands of red juicy strawberries for Valentine’s Day and delivered many gift baskets in my day.

this year my gifts look like this

i fell in love with this ribbon and oh how it looked perfect with these printables from

Party Box Design

click on the image to download yours TODAY!! i love her designs and i know you will too!!

one of my favorite treats to make are chocolate dipped pretzels. This year I am sprinkling them with peppermint chunks.

and hey, even if you don’t have time, purchase treats premade and re-packeage them. i’m no fool, this is something i do as a time saver.

“It’s all about the pretty packaging” is my motto. Even if you dump some candy in to a box, make it look presentable with a tasteful bow and tag.

i just bought this peppermint bark at Costco and re packaged it.

shh, it’s our secret!

happy treat making!!

“trash” talk – holiday stylings

By jo anne

When the San AntonioExpress-News contacted me to do a feature article on a trash to treasure tablescape, I just couldn’t wait. I love shopping flea markets and one of a kind boutiques for those hidden treasures.

They were so excited to see how I would take these finds once considered not worthy or someone else’s trash into a vintage holiday tablescape. For one day we visited goodwill stores and local flea markets and one of a kind antique stores. I had no idea actually what theme I would do , but as usual I let the variety of goods lead me to what became

Cookies & Cocoa with Santa

invites and placecards by Harper Gray

My vision went from an outdoor shoot with cozy blankets and a campfire to back indoors by the fireplace to finally on the porch of an historic cottage in downtown New Braunfels, Texas.

I ran with the colors or red and turquoise. It all came together when I found bits and peices of old dusty weathered furniture at Max’s Haus in New Braunfels just lying around.

The editor and photographer followed me around watching every peice I picked up with confused looks on their faces. I knew just what each peice would be used for. I hope to share some images with you from the photographer of our shopping trip.

I took along my creative assisitant Mika of Cookie Craft. My life has never been the same since we met. My little Martha shares my vision and attention to detail and completes my passion to design and style. Not only does she make and decorate amazing cookies, she sews, paints, draws and puts up with my at times crazy requests (not to mention she laughs at all my jokes).

We busily put together stockings, wreaths, snowglobes, tablecloths and place settings all in one full day of hard work. I called Santa at the North Pole to see if he could spare the time to have cookies with me and I was as giddy as a child when he said YES!!

The next day we set up and styled our vision for the newspaper and the photographer took pictures of our details and a “few” of Santa himself. I invited my sweet young nephews Tommy and Charlie to come see Santa and have cookies and I couldn’t have been more proud to have them there sipping chocolate milk and enjoying Santa all to themselves. How special is that?

Enjoy the article. I am so honored to have been asked to style this shoot. I hope it brings inspiration to you for the Holidays.

All week I will be breaking down certain details for you to see aong with how-tos and free printables that you can use to set your table.

I hope you will join me all week as we “trash talk” our amazing front page article.
