trust the professionals

Trust the Professionals

Springtime in Texas means many things and one of the most important is the arrival of the bluebonnet.  The bluebonnet is a wildflower that also happens to be our state flower.  Once you see the bluebonnets, you know it’s Spring.  You will see many families on the side of the road or in empty fields trying to get beautiful pictures of their children (or pets) in the fields of bluebonnets–it is a Texas tradition.

Yesterday, my sister and I took our children to an empty field to get these coveted bluebonnet pictures.  This was especially important this year since we did not get bluebonnets last year due to a drought.  Our children range in age from 12 years to 18 months…how hard could this be? Of course, half of the kids fell asleep in route to our destination and the other half did not want to walk through the field to get to the bluebonnets because it was itchy.  Once we (somehow) got to the middle of the bluebonnets, one sibling did not want to stand next to the other, the 18 month old was trying to pick the bluebonnets (which is against the law) and another kiddo was pouting for some reason I can’t recall.  And, of course, my almost three year old was standing with his hands inside his clothes.  You can picture this, I’m sure.  If we could get half of the kids looking toward the camera, it was a miracle and that is not even saying they were smiling.  My sister and I were standing behind the camera acting like fools trying to get the kids to look in our direction and maybe, I don’t know, smile?

I’m sure we weren’t there longer than 45 minutes and in that time I thought to myself several times, let’s just scrap this and reschedule.

And then we scrolled through the pictures that Pagette Callendar Photography  captured.

 A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Patient Pagette got every picture when the kiddos were cooperating, smiling and looking adorable.  I was in awe.  Worth every frustration.

My lesson for the day was simple–trust the professionals that you seek out.  If you are party planning, trying to get photos or creating something…trust the professionals.  They have their magical ways.  I’ve discovered that many creative folks are a bit introverted and have a hard time explaining their vision or how they are going to make it happen and if you can step out of their way, they will.  And she did!  Thank you, Pagette!

balloon invitations

up! up! and away!!

take your event and guest’s invites to new heights with balloons.

I adore these 2 ways to use balloons in your invitation.

Such a cute idea as seen on Oh Happy Day

use a tiny water balloon  filled with helium and hand deliver the balloon in a  box.

:)

Another way that may last a bit longer is to insert your invite into the balloon and add a tag that reads POP ME!!

Your guests will receive the invite (and don’t forget to add some confetti) as it pops open to their delight.

This great idea was seen on Balloon Time.

Start your party off with a BaNg with these great ideas!!

Of course nothing is more amazing than these balloons from bon bon balloons.

If you really can go above and beyond, attach a your invite to these huge balloons in a box!

Check out their facebook page to see their coupon for Easter!! What a perfect gift!!

We all are in love with balloons as they are raising high as the party trend of the year!

Take a look at  TomKat Studios new balloon party line! Adorable, enough said!!

How cute to use these ideas in your next balloon party!!

How will you use balloons at your next party? I’d love to know!

DIY tissue paper pom toppers

Welcome Spring and welcome to our DIY tutorial for
Tissue Pom Toppers
Supplies:
Tissue Paper
Threaded sewing needle with a double-knot at one end
Glue Gun
Scissors
Lollipop Stick or Skewer
1.  Cut 30 2″ circles from tissue paper, and then stack them all together.
2.  Sew through the center of the stack of circles.
3.  Double-knot the thread on the opposite side as close to the tissue paper as possible and cut the remaining thread close to the knot.  (Note:  You may want to secure both knots on either sides of the tissue with a tiny dab of hot glue.)
4.  Use scissors to cut evenly-spaced “spokes” into the circles, stopping 1/4 inch from the center.
5.  Attach the circles to a lollipop stick or skewer using hot glue.   Insert the stick in the middle of your tissue circle stack, placing the end of the stick just under the knotted center point.
Use your fingers to separate and bend the tissue layers and sections until all the layers have been fluffed out.  Continue “fluffing” until it looks like a pom-pom.
Stay tuned to see how we use these to add height to an amazing wedding cake!!

capture the sport

I LOVE photographing sports.  I love the action, the emotion, the team spirit.

(Not to mention, it gives me an excuse to rent the Cadillac telephoto lens I want to own someday.)

I grew up playing sports, and I think that’s one of the things I enjoy most about being the mom of two boys is watching them enjoy the sports they each play.

March means baseball, and Carson is my baseball player.

It’s funny – for as much as Carson loves baseball, Hudson has absolutely no interest in the sport.  He’s a great cheerleader, though!

During baseball games, I like to photograph the hits, the catches, and the plays, but I also like to capture the off the field action and emotion, too, like when Carson in on deck, in the dugout, or getting a pep talk from coach.  It helps to tell more of the story of the season that way, I think.

Whatever your kids are involved in, think about capturing the whole “story” and not just the “nuts and bolts” of the event.  I think it makes a more personal and compelling collection of memories!

Have a great Spring!!  Play Ball!!

spring time check up

The first day of Spring was Tuesday.  I like to use that as an opportunity to review my progress on any New Years Resolutions that I made and take the opportunity to set any new goals that I find necessary.
In January, we talked about making SMART goals:
S–be specific
M–make it measurable
A–be sure it is actually attainable
R–be realistic
T–set a timeline
Spring is a great time to reflect on your resolutions and make any adjustments that are needed.  A few months have passed…we all usually begin strong and many of us are fading in our determination a few months in (around now).
Reflect on your resolutions and re-apply the SMART criteria.  Make any changes that you feel will assist you in meeting your goals.  Set yourself up for success.
There is no shame in altering goals.  There is evidence that setting realistic goals and/or altering the goals as needed will assist us in reaching our goals.  We are dynamic individuals who lead multi-faceted lives and it is important to be responsive to our ever-changing selves.  If it’s not working, scrap it and reset.  Its not about giving up…its about taking control and creating a goal that is obtainable and allowing yourself to succeed.  Success breads success.
So use the changing of the seasons to reinvigorate your promises to yourself.  Stay committed over the Spring and Summer and well check in again soon.
